Overview
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is a government-backed insurance program that helps property owners, renters, and businesses recover from flood damage by offering flood insurance policies.
The NFIP Write Your Own Program (WYO) began in 1983 as a cooperative undertaking between the private insurance industry and FEMA, and allows participating property and casualty insurance companies to write and service the SFIP in their own names.
WYO companies use the same policy terms as the NFIP, but write the coverage on their own paper. The NFIP reinsures 100% of the coverage.
WYO companies must follow the rules and regulations of the NFIP, including floodplain management regulations. There is no deviation of the rules, rates and regulations for different WYO Companies, or for the NFIP Direct.
